On July 10, 2026, a monumental partnership unfolded at the Shangri-La Hotel in Phnom Penh, marking a transformative leap forward for Cambodia’s agricultural sector and food supply chain. The Cambodian private sector titan, WorldBridge Group, officially signed a service agreement with France’s leading wholesale market operator, SEMMARIS, to launch a comprehensive feasibility study for the proposed Phnom Penh Fresh Produce Wholesale Market. This strategic alliance seeks to establish a highly modern, international agro-food distribution hub modeled after some of the world’s most advanced fresh food facilities.

The high-profile signing ceremony was held under the distinguished presidency of Dith Tina, Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, and Nicolas Forissier, the French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness. This collaboration underscores the deep economic ties and shared vision between Cambodia and France, specifically aiming to modernise agricultural distribution channels and strengthen local economies.

Addressing the assembly, Minister Dith Tina expressed his immense optimism for this initiative, highlighting its vital role in the country’s agricultural master plan. He explained that this agreement is a significant milestone that successfully turns a shared vision into a tangible project. The proposed Phnom Penh Fresh Produce Wholesale Market is envisioned as a cornerstone institution that will guarantee a secure, efficient, and traceable pathway from farms directly to dining tables. Minister Dith Tina noted that the close partnership between the private sectors of Cambodia and France sets an exemplary standard for initiatives aimed at boosting local livelihoods, promoting long-term economic sustainability, ensuring national food security, and contributing to the overall development of the national economy.

To support this ambitious blueprint, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries has committed to providing robust technical coordination and ongoing administrative facilitation. This state support will ensure that the feasibility studies proceed seamlessly and remain fully aligned with high technical standards, paving the way for smooth implementation.

Under this agreement, SEMMARIS will bring over six decades of experience in managing Paris’s world-renowned Marché de Rungis, the largest wholesale fresh food market globally. By lending its world-class technical expertise, SEMMARIS will analyze demand, storage logistics, real estate requirements, and comprehensive site planning. This thorough assessment will help design a state-of-the-art facility that streamlines supply chains, reduces food waste, and elevates the earnings of Cambodian farmers.  (read more)
