Austria Seeks Investment Opportunities in Key Sectors of Cambodia

Austria is setting its sights on investing in Cambodia, eyeing four key sectors that hold significant potential for trade cooperation between the two nations. During a recent meeting with Ms. Tekret Kamrong, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce, Austrian Trade Advisor and President of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA, Michael Friedl, outlined Austria’s interest in tourism, agriculture, industry, and logistics.

Ms. Kamrong highlighted Cambodia’s promising sectors, particularly in tourism and agriculture, mentioning opportunities in agro-processing for products such as rice, cashew, pepper, and cassava. She also pointed out the industrial prospects in garments, footwear, and bicycles. The discussion emphasized Cambodia’s focus on developing backward linkages to support these sectors.

To further bolster cooperation, Ms. Kamrong encouraged the Austrian delegation to explore the establishment of a joint framework, potentially through an agreement or memorandum of understanding between the two countries’ ministries of commerce. Additionally, she proposed leveraging the Chamber of Commerce to facilitate private sector collaboration.

In response, the President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce shared insights on Austria’s economic landscape, reinforcing the desire for the Austrian private sector to expand trade and investment in Cambodia, especially within the identified sectors.

Both parties are committed to enhancing cooperation between their private sectors, viewing it as a vital driver for resilient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable economic growth.

In a positive reflection of Cambodia’s investment climate, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) announced the approval of 546 new investment projects in the first nine months of 2025, amounting to nearly 8 billion VND. This is indicative of Cambodia’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment and foster economic development.

As both nations work together, the potential for mutual growth in these key sectors remains promising, paving the way for a strengthened partnership between Austria and Cambodia.
