Boeung Choeung Ek Wastewater Treatment Plant at 99% Completion, Promising a Cleaner Future

In an extraordinary feat of engineering and environmental stewardship, the construction of the Boeung Choeung Ek Water Treatment Plant, with an estimated value exceeding US$20 million, has reached an impressive 99% completion as of October 30, 2023, and is poised for full operational status by November 2023.

This remarkable progress report was unveiled by the Department of Public Works and Transport of Phnom Penh on the mentioned date.

Upon full operation, this state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant is geared to manage a staggering 5,000 cubic meters of wastewater each day. This monumental endeavor also encompasses the establishment of 22 pumping stations, each capable of efficiently pumping 468 cubic meters of water per hour.

The realization of this essential facility has been made possible through the benevolence of the Government of Japan, who have generously extended a grant exceeding US$20 million. Spanning across a sprawling 3 hectares of Prek Ta Kong 1 village, Chak Angre commune, this treatment plant is a testament to the collaborative spirit of international cooperation.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which marked the commencement of this pivotal project, was a momentous occasion graced by the esteemed presence of Cambodia’s Former Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and Mr. Mikami Masahiro, the Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia. (Read more)
