Cambodia and Netherlands Eye Deeper Commercial Ties as Bilateral Trade Surpasses $1 Billion

Prime Minister Hun Manet and Dutch Ambassador Remco Johannes van Wijngaarden pledge to expand private sector connections and business matchmaking to unlock untapped economic potential

Bilateral trade between Cambodia and the Netherlands has experienced a major surge, officially exceeding the $1 billion threshold in 2025. This milestone reflects a strengthening commercial bond and underscores the growing economic cooperation between the two nations, setting a solid foundation for future investment opportunities.

The historic trade figures were a focal point of discussion during a high-profile diplomatic meeting on May 20, 2026, between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Cambodia, His Excellency Remco Johannes van Wijngaarden. During the session, the Dutch envoy expressed high praise for the robust trajectory of bilateral relations, specifically highlighting the impressive growth in trade and economic exchanges over the past year. Ambassador van Wijngaarden also extended his gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its consistent support and facilitation of Dutch companies currently operating within the Kingdom, contributing to their ongoing commercial success.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet highly valued the Ambassador’s active contributions toward deepening mutual relations and expanding cross-border cooperation across multiple vital fields, with a particular emphasis on trade and investment. The Prime Minister expressed optimism that the friendship between Cambodia and the Netherlands would grow even closer moving forward, noting that both economies still hold substantial unexploited potential that can be leveraged for mutual benefit.

To capitalize on this momentum, both parties agreed to implement targeted strategies aimed at making the economic, trade, business, and investment ties even more resilient and deep. A central element of this agreement is the promotion of direct business-to-business connections between the respective private sectors. Moving forward, Cambodia and the Netherlands plan to coordinate reciprocal business delegations, trade missions, and commercial exhibitions, which will allow enterprises from both nations to actively explore new market landscapes and continuously expand the bilateral trade volume.
