Cambodia and South Korea Deepen Strategic Tax Cooperation Through Modernization and Reform

Bilateral agreement on information exchange aims to enhance transparency and reinforce the economic partnership between the two nations

The General Department of Taxation of Cambodia and the National Tax Service of South Korea have formalized a significant commitment to modernize and deepen tax administration reforms. This strategic move, announced following a press release on March 13, 2026, is designed to elevate the bilateral tax framework and foster a more transparent business environment for investors from both countries.

The agreement was solidified during an official visit by a high-level South Korean tax delegation to Cambodia. His Excellency Kong Vibol, Director General of the General Department of Taxation, and Mr. Lim Kwang Hyun, Commissioner of the National Tax Service of Korea, signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes. This memorandum serves as a critical mechanism for strengthening cooperation between the tax administrations, aligning with the principles of the Double Taxation Avoidance agreement previously established by the two governments.

The collaboration focuses on the exchange of tax-related information to ensure compliance and enhance the efficiency of tax collection. Beyond technical data sharing, the partnership emphasizes the modernization of tax systems through administrative reform, which is essential for supporting sustainable economic growth. This initiative is expected to play a vital role in reinforcing the overall economic and diplomatic bonds between Cambodia and South Korea, providing a more stable and predictable fiscal landscape for cross-border enterprises.

The ongoing reforms are part of a broader strategy to integrate international best practices into Cambodia’s fiscal management, ensuring the Kingdom remains a competitive and equitable destination for South Korean investment.
