Cambodia Aviation Sector Maps Growth in Flight Operations and Cargo Amid Shifting Passenger Volumes

Cambodia’s aviation sector saw mixed results in the first four months of 2026, with flight frequencies and air cargo experiencing notable growth while overall passenger numbers faced a slight decline. According to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, the country’s three main international airports handled a total of 23,204 two-way flights from January through April, representing an increase of approximately two percent compared to the same period last year.

H.E. Sinn Chansereyvutha, Undersecretary of State and spokesperson for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, shared these figures during a briefing with journalists from the Ministry of Information on May 16, 2026. The recorded flight activities were distributed across Techo International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, and Preah Sihanouk International Airport, highlighting steady operations across Cambodia’s primary aviation gateways.

While aircraft movements ticked upward, passenger traffic experienced a modest downturn. Cambodia welcomed over two million air travelers during the four-month period, with the exact number of two-way passengers reaching 2,428,009. This figure marks a decrease of around four percent when measured against the same timeframe in 2025. In contrast, the air freight sector demonstrated robust performance, as two-way cargo volume surged by roughly 36 percent to reach 30,448 tons, indicating strengthening trade links.

Looking at recent operations during the first half of May 2026, the aviation landscape featured 33 active airlines connecting to and within the Kingdom, comprising four domestic carriers and 29 international operators. Weekly flight data recorded between May 1 and May 15 reveals that Techo International Airport led operations with 708 two-way flights per week, followed by Siem Reap Angkor International Airport with 224 weekly flights, and Preah Sihanouk International Airport with 50 weekly flights. Additionally, Dara Sakor Airport logged four weekly two-way flights, operating as a domestic route connecting it directly with Techo International Airport. (read more)
