Government reaffirms commitment to resolving private sector challenges in mining, energy, and petroleum sectors to propel sustainable national economic growth

Phnom Penh: Strengthening public-private partnerships remains a key cornerstone for sustaining economic growth and creating a competitive business environment in Cambodia. On August 27, 2026, the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Mines and Energy held a consultative dialogue focused on exchanging constructive feedback, addressing operational challenges, and identifying joint practical solutions. The dialogue mechanism highlights the government’s recognition of the private sector as an indispensable driving force behind national economic expansion.

During the consultative session, participants discussed critical issues surrounding the mining, energy, and petroleum sectors. Private sector representatives outlined operational bottlenecks and regulatory inquiries, while ministry officials clarified regulatory standards, policy frameworks, and strategic guidelines aimed at ensuring transparent, efficient, and sustainable resource management. Overall, this discussion meeting was organized with the following objectives: 1. Strengthening the dialogue between the public and the private sector by stablishing a direct and transparent dialogue platform between the leadership of the Ministry of Mines and Energy with the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce, which represents the private sector, businessmen, business associations, investors, and local private companies, to receive recommendations, exchange information, and opinions on the development of the mining and energy sector in Cambodia. 2. Addressing challenges and concerns by providing an opportunity for the private sector to raise challenges, technical obstacles, and practical concerns of business associations, private enterprises/companies regarding energy use, electricity costs, and legal standards for direct discussion to request solutions and coordination from the Royal Government, especially with the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

The Cambodian government emphasized its active engagement in addressing business concerns and optimizing the investment climate. By streamlining administrative processes and fostering ongoing dialogue, the government aims to build investor confidence, attract foreign direct investment into energy and extractive industries, and enhance the nation’s overall market competitiveness.

The joint dialogue between the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Mines and Energy marks an important step toward building a transparent and supportive business ecosystem. Effectively addressing key issues within the mining, energy, and petroleum sectors safeguards private enterprise, reinforces energy security, and ensures a solid foundation for sustainable socio-economic development across the Kingdom.
