Mizuda Waste Management Eyeing Investment in Phnom Penh Waste-To-Energy Project

Chinese-owned Mizuda Waste Management Co Ltd is considering an investment in a waste-generated power project in Phnom Penh, according to the CEO of Mizuda Shan Jian Ming. The company is one of three garbage collection firms operating in the Cambodian capital.

During a meeting with Phnom Penh Governor HE Khuong Sreng on 28 March 2023, Mr. Shan Jian Ming expressed confidence in the Cambodia government and the city administration stating that the company aims to discuss the possibility of investing in various projects and contributing to the development of Phnom Penh to be more beautiful and suitable as a modern city. He also highlighted the company’s success in operating 33 factories in China.

Mr. Jian Ming also asked for comments on the company’s garbage collection work in the city and raised the company’s plans to convert the production of electricity from the garbage. In his response, HE Khuong Sreng expressed his full support for the waste-to-energy project, but noted that the final decision on approval is in the government’s hands.

If approved, this investment will add to the company’s current operation and its contribution to the development of Phnom Penh as a modern city. The project is in line with the country’s push towards sustainable energy and will reduce the amount of waste going to landfills. It also aligns with Mizuda Waste Management’s commitment to investing in the Cambodian market.
