Expert: Major Infrastructure Projects in 2021 to Focus on Green Development

Giant developer firms such as Vinci, Ferrovial, and ACS next year will shift their focuses to sustainable development by building more green infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

According to an analysis by Fitch Solutions published on the Global Construction Review website on 14 December, this shift aims to follow the country’s goals to reduce CO2 emissions and maintain economic growth.

During the COVID-19 crisis, global airport projects worth billions of dollars have been put on hold. With the number of travellers fallen by 60% to 70% this year, Vinci and Ferrovial have decided to halt investing in these projects for a while.

Fitch predicts future investment in the renewable sector is not only the best way to recover the country’s economy but also supports the government’s policy to reduce emissions.

France, for instance, is using the Normandy coast as a 1GW wind power source and is currently is in the process of tendering.

Similarly, Cambodia is also developing several renewable energy projects across the country, including the solar power plant project in Pursat, scheduled to generate 90MW early next year. There are also three solar power plants in Svay Rieng, Banteay Meanchey, and Battambang, which are set to go online in the first quarter of 2021. (Read more and more)
