Gov’t boosts cement plant investment to meet growing demand

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen stated that there is a high demand for cement in Cambodia, which requires additional investment, while the five cement factories produce about 9 million tons per year.

During the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and upgrading of two roads in Kampot and Kep provinces on 30 December, PM Hun Sen said that Cambodia currently produces about 9 million tons and the consumption is more than 10 million tons, which leads to import to meet local demand.

“According to the estimation, we still need to use cement, because now cement is not just used for building houses, but also is being used for building road systems,” he said.

The booming of the construction industry today has been fueling the growing demand for raw materials, including cement.

The five cement factories operating in Cambodia include Kampot Cement Co., Ltd, Cambodia Cement Chakreyting Co., Ltd, Chip Mong Insee Cement Corporation, Battambang Conch Cement Company Limited, and Thai Boon Roong Cement.
