Gov’t and OCIC Mull Building Another Bridge in Prek Pra

The Phnom Penh Municipality and OCIC are considering building another bridge in the Prek Pra area to reduce traffic along NR1 and NR2. In the meantime, both parties are also setting up a ferry service connecting Koh Norea and Koh Pich to also temporarily ease the traffic in the area.

According to Phnom Penh Governor HE Khoung Sreng, both parties are currently inspecting the sites for both projects.

“We are considering using some part of Koh Norea to set up the ferry service. This will temporarily help with the traffic flow around NR1 and NR2” said the governor.

“Besides, we also are thinking of building another bridge in addition to the two under-construction bridges, Koh Norea-Koh Pich and Koh Norea-NR1. So, the new one will be built around the Prek Pra area, which is highly congested now,” he added.

Ground was broken on the Koh Norea-Koh Pich and Koh Norea-NR1 bridges in October 2020. Both projects, worth almost US$40 million, are invested in and developed by the OCIC. Koh Norea-Koh Pich is expected to be complete within 35 months, while the Koh Norea-NR1 bridge will take 12 months. (Read more)
