Gov’t Plans to Build Seven River-Based Ports

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) plans to build seven river-based ports along the Mekong River and the Tonle Sap River to facilitate the transportation of products from the provinces to the port of Phnom Penh for export.

MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol mentioned the project during the site inspection of the TS11 Multi-Purpose Port Development Project of Phnom Penh Autonomous Port on 25 April.

According to HE Sun Chanthol, those river-based ports will be built at Tonle Bit, Koh Roka, Prek Tamak, Kampong Chhnang and Chhlong.

“We plan to build seven ports to facilitate goods transportation across our country to the port of Phnom Penh for export,” he said.

The development project of TS11 multi-purpose port of Phnom Penh Autonomous Port has completed been 85% to date and is scheduled to be completed and operational in July 2022.
