The landmark infrastructure project aims to seamlessly bridge Phnom Penh’s western and eastern corridors, alleviate urban traffic congestion, and accelerate regional economic growth.

Phnom Penh’s expanding urban landscape is poised for another major milestone following the official signing of construction and supervision contracts for the new Mekong River bridge project connecting the Koh Norea satellite city to the Mekong Quay satellite city.

The agreement was finalized on October 16, 2026, at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. The ceremony took place under the high chairmanship of Minister of Public Works and Transport Peng Ponea, bringing together representatives from TP Moral Group alongside construction and technical consulting firms.

Following the signing, a representative for TP Moral Group announced that the company will immediately deploy heavy machinery, technical equipment, and site preparation teams. These preliminary efforts are designed to ensure the site is fully operational ahead of the official groundbreaking ceremony slated for early 2027.

Minister Peng Ponea emphasized that the Koh Norea-Mekong Quay bridge project stems from the visionary leadership and strategic initiative of Prime Minister Hun Manet. The infrastructure undertaking is engineered to bridge the western and eastern zones of Phnom Penh. By establishing a direct and efficient transit route between Phnom Penh’s Niroth commune in the Chbar Ampov district and Mekong Quay in Kandal province, the project aims to unlock substantial economic potential, optimize regional development, and ease mounting traffic congestion within the capital.
