Indian Chamber of Commerce Explores Investment Opportunities in Cambodia’s Agriculture Sector

A delegation from the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is actively exploring investment and trade opportunities within Cambodia’s agriculture sector. This initiative was highlighted in a recent meeting between H.E. Prak David, Secretary of State for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Dr. Rajjev Singh Tyagi, Director General of the ICC.

During the discussions, Dr. Tyagi emphasized the importance of experience exchange in agriculture, enhancing cooperation, and fostering agricultural trade to benefit both nations. He mentioned that a collaborative approach could significantly complement the strengths of India and Cambodia in the agri-sector.

H.E. Prak David showcased Cambodia’s rich agricultural landscape, which boasts high-quality products such as rice, cashews, cassava, pepper, and various spices. He noted that these products present a compelling opportunity for Indian investors to engage in processing, packaging, and exporting, thereby creating a strong brand identity. “Cambodia is keen on transitioning from exporting raw materials to delivering finished products, which can generate higher added value,” he stated.

David also highlighted Cambodia’s favorable investment laws, designed to offer numerous benefits to investors within a supportive legal framework. In addition, he urged the Indian delegation to consider backing research and development efforts, contributing to the establishment of modern agricultural production systems, and facilitating the import of high-quality fertilizers and agricultural chemicals at reasonable prices.

Furthermore, H.E. David emphasized the need for India to assist in advancing comprehensive dairy farming techniques and developing freshwater aquaculture. This focus not only aims to enhance nutritional sources for the Cambodian population but also seeks to increase economic benefits and alleviate pressure on natural fishing resources.

The ongoing dialogue marks a significant step in strengthening the agricultural ties between India and Cambodia, with both sides optimistic about future collaborations.
