Ninh Binh Plans Major International Airport to Boost Tourism

Ninh Binh province in northern Vietnam is set to develop a 720-hectare international airport, projected to handle 10 million passengers annually, aimed at capitalizing on the region’s booming tourism industry. Positioned in Liem Tuyen ward, the airport will be approximately 80 km from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport and 85 km from Hai Phong and Thanh Hoa airports.

This proposed 4E-category airport, capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft like the Boeing 787 and Airbus, is seen as a pivotal infrastructure project for economic growth and tourism expansion in the northern delta region. It will also alleviate pressure on existing airports.

Ninh Binh authorities have submitted a proposal to include the airport in the national development plan for 2021-2030, with a long-term vision extending to 2050. In the first half of 2025, the province welcomed over 7.2 million tourists, achieving nearly 80% of its annual target.
