Deepening Bilateral Partnerships with China to Advance Bridges, Roads, and Human Capital Development Toward the 2050 Vision

Phnom Penh: Efforts to expand Cambodia’s physical infrastructure and transport connectivity achieved a significant milestone as His Excellency Peng Pione, Minister of Public Works and Transport, led a high-level working meeting with delegations from the China Railway Design Corporation (CRDC) and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA). The strategic session took place on the afternoon of Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters, led by Mr. Xue Dong, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, alongside ministry leaders and relevant officials.

The meeting was convened to review and deliberate on feasibility studies for several priority infrastructure initiatives, encompassing bridge construction, road networks, wastewater management systems, and notably, railway development projects. In addition to hard infrastructure, both sides placed strong emphasis on human capital development by implementing specialized technical training programs for the Ministry’s engineering and professional personnel, both locally and through capacity-building programs in China.

During the discussions, the Cambodian side expressed profound gratitude for the steadfast and unconditional support extended by Chinese partners in advancing national infrastructure, which has served as a vital catalyst for Cambodia’s socio-economic progress. These cooperative endeavors align seamlessly with the “Comprehensive Master Plan on Cambodian Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023-2033” and Phase 1 of the Royal Government’s Pentagonal Strategy. The Ministry remains deeply committed to elevating transport service quality, safety, sustainability, and inclusiveness, steadily driving the nation toward its 2050 vision of achieving high-income status.

The robust collaboration between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the China Railway Design Corporation, and CIDCA represents a cornerstone in modernizing Cambodia’s national transit landscape.
