School Aid Japan Commits to Build 20 School Buildings Annually in Cambodia

In a significant step towards enhancing educational infrastructure in Cambodia, School Aid Japan has announced its commitment to construct 20 new school buildings each year. This initiative will primarily benefit Cambodian orphans, ensuring they have access to quality education. The announcement was made by Miki Watanabe, the Director General of School Aid Japan, during a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet on 28 May 2025.

During the meeting, Watanabe expressed gratitude to the Cambodian government for its ongoing support of the organisation’s mission. He reiterated School Aid Japan’s dedication to improving educational facilities in the country and outlined plans for the upcoming construction projects.

Prime Minister Hun Manet commended the organization for its valuable contributions to Cambodia’s socio-economic development, particularly in the education sector. He emphasised the importance of supporting orphans and stated that the government is committed to promoting education from preschool through high school. The Prime Minister encouraged School Aid Japan to continue its impactful work in building human capital in the nation.

School Aid Japan has been a dedicated presence in Cambodia for over 20 years, having established an orphanage that currently houses and educates more than 100 orphans. In addition to constructing school buildings, the organisation operates a breakfast program that supports over 20,000 students in various schools across the country, highlighting its commitment to improving the lives of Cambodian children. Furthermore, School Aid Japan also runs a Japanese language school, providing Cambodian children with valuable language skills.

This initiative marks a crucial investment in the future of education in Cambodia, aiming to create a more equitable learning environment for all children, especially those in need.
