South Korean Economic Envoy Pledges to Drive Investment Toward Sihanoukville’s Growing Industrial Landscape

The economic ties between Cambodia and South Korea are set for further expansion as a senior South Korean official commits to actively encouraging investors to explore the burgeoning opportunities within Sihanoukville. This renewed focus on the coastal province was the centerpiece of a strategic discussion held on March 26, 2026, in Changwon City, between Mr. Long Dimanche, Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, and Mr. Shim Dong Seop, Director General of Economy and Labor at Changwon City Hall.

During the exchange, Mr. Shim Dong Seop expressed a firm intention to help South Korean investors recognize Cambodia—and Sihanoukville in particular—as a primary destination for future projects. He noted that increasing investment cooperation would not only benefit individual businesses but also strengthen the overall economic partnership between the two nations. The commitment reflects a growing interest from South Korean enterprises in Cambodia’s strategic coastal gateways.

In response, Mr. Long Dimanche highlighted the Special Investment Promotion Program for Sihanoukville, a comprehensive government mechanism designed to provide exceptional incentives and support to international investors. He emphasized that this program is a vital tool for driving national economic growth and is a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s roadmap toward achieving its 2050 economic vision. The Deputy Governor requested that Changwon City, a long-standing partner, continue to explore new avenues for collaboration in economy and investment.

The relationship between Sihanoukville and Changwon City is built on a solid foundation of cooperation, having officially established a sister-city alliance since 2017. Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to deepening these ties by fostering a vibrant business environment and facilitating direct connections between investors. By leveraging Changwon’s industrial experience alongside Sihanoukville’s development potential, the partnership aims to catalyze sustainable growth and create new high-value employment opportunities in the region.
