ThaiBev to Establish a US$108 Million Beverage Powerhouse in Cambodia

Thai Beverage (ThaiBev), a prominent ASEAN food and beverage conglomerate listed in Singapore, is poised to make a significant mark in Cambodia with a staggering investment of 4 billion baht (equivalent to US$108 million). Their grand plan includes the construction of a state-of-the-art beverage and beer factory, as reported by the Bangkok Post on 4 October 2023.

Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi, CEO of ThaiBev, unveiled their ambitious strategy to allocate 7 billion baht (around US$189 million) for expansive business ventures, both domestically and internationally. Commencing from 1 October, this financial commitment underscores their relentless pursuit of growth and excellence.

A substantial portion of this substantial investment, amounting to 4 billion baht, is earmarked for the establishment of a cutting-edge beverage factory within the heart of Cambodia. Out of this sum, 3 billion baht is dedicated to constructing warehouses and cutting-edge biological plants, bolstering the company’s strategic positioning.

Mr Sirivadhanabhakdi emphasised that the decision to channel these resources into Cambodia aligns perfectly with the region’s economic revival, particularly in the tourism and food and beverage sectors. ThaiBev is steadfast in fortifying its brand presence and market influence through a diverse portfolio of business initiatives, aimed at staying highly competitive in dynamic markets.

In a notable development, Michel Chye Hin Fah, the head of the company’s brewery division, confirmed that ThaiBev’s foray into Cambodia includes the establishment of its inaugural brewery, projected to be fully operational within two years. This strategic move is bolstered by Cambodia’s robust economic growth and tremendous potential in the beverage industry.

The brewery is slated to boast an impressive production capacity, estimated at approximately 50 million hectolitres, equating to a staggering 5 billion litres annually.

Beyond Cambodia, ThaiBev has expanded its footprint to Vietnam with dedicated production facilities. However, these endeavours come with their unique set of challenges, primarily stemming from fluctuating consumption patterns amidst economic fluctuations. Consequently, the construction of the new factory in Cambodia is expected to serve as a pivotal logistical hub, facilitating the seamless distribution of ThaiBev’s diverse range of beer and beverages to the thriving Vietnamese market.
