US$2.4-million Water Treatment Plant Breaks Ground in Kambol District

A new US$2.4 million water treatment plant, with a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres per day, has broken ground in Phnom Penh’s Kambol district. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 3 March with HE Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, presiding over the event.

This Boeung Thom Water Treatment Plant is expected to be operational in October 2023, after a seven-month construction period that began in March of the same year.

The Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority has allocated more than US$2.4 million for the construction of the new water treatment plant. The government of Japan has pledged to provide US$1.4 million in assistance, with the remainder being provided by the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority.

Once operational, the Boeung Thom Water Treatment Plant is expected to provide 5,000 cubic metres of clean water per day. The new facility is part of the government’s efforts to improve water infrastructure and meet the population’s growing needs. While addressing the increasing demand for clean water in the district and improving the city’s overall water supply, the project is also expected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the area. (Read more)
