Master Plan of Multi-Purpose Special Economic Zone Development in SHV 50% Complete

Preah Sihanouk province in Cambodia is moving closer to its goal of becoming a multi-purpose model special economic zone, with the completion of 50% of its master plan, according to Long Dimanche,  Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk province. The update was shared by the official on his Facebook page on 27 February.

“The preparation of the master plan for the development of Sihanoukville into a multi-purpose model special economic zone has reached the review and recommendation stage at the technical level, with 12 draft master plan reports and relevant section reports,” said the deputy governor.

The Provincial Administration of Preah Sihanouk recently held a fifth meeting on 27 February with UPDIS Institute, CDI Institute, and C&W to review and recommend the draft report of the Master Plan for the Development of Preah Sihanouk Province into the multi-purpose model economic zone.

“The master plan is currently in its final three phases and is awaiting official approval. The Inter-Ministerial Committee will convene again on 14 March 2023 to further discuss the draft of 12 Thematic Reports.” wrote HE Long Dimanche.

Sihanoukville has already taken significant steps towards developing into a thriving special economic zone. The construction of 34 new roads has been completed, and there are plans to build another deep-sea port and expand the international airport. The newly built US$2 billion Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway is further boosting the potential of the coastal province.

Furthermore, the provincial administration has initiated efforts to resolve the issue of dead buildings in the province, encouraging more potential developers and investors. The province has also been selected as the centre of the “Industrial Development Corridor” in the future, positioning it as a hub for industrial and economic growth. (Read more)
