A meeting on the construction of the new stadium was held on 25 May 2020, at the video conference room of Pursat Provincial Hall, which was chaired by HE Keo Rottanak, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime minister and the Director General of Electricity of Cambodia and HE Mao Thornin Pursat Provincial Governor.

The stadium comprises an international football pitch, theatre, volleyball court, basketball court, racetrack, tennis court, gymnasium, sophisticated road system (8 to 10-metre wide), a meadow, playground, pond and so on.

During the meeting, HE Keo Rottanak and HE Mao Thornin mentioned that the project was designed to provide Prime Minister Hun Sen’s legacy for the province and in response to the development of the sport sector in Cambodia.

The decision to build the new stadium was approved by Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the occasion of Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s visit to the province recently.

The provincial administration and the project team have now slowly begun the operation and has already begun clearing land.

The Cambodian government has recently been constructing several large-scale stadium projects with five stadiums already underway including: the Samdech Techo National Stadium in Russei Keo district, the international standard Swimming Pool in Koh Thom district, the international standard Stadium in Kompong Speu, the International Swimming Pool in Battambang, and now the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Stadium in Pursat province.
