Angkor Tourism Revenue Reflects Global Travel Pressures in First Half of 2026

Ticket sales top $18 million amid an international visitor slowdown, while state-backed Angkor Enterprise maintains vital funding for the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital

Cambodia generated over $18 million from ticket sales to international tourists at the Angkor Archaeological Park during the first six months of 2026, marking a notable contraction compared to the same period last year. According to the latest bi-annual report released by the state-owned Angkor Enterprise on July 1, 2026, gross ticket revenue reached exactly $18,472,469 between January and June, representing a 29.81 percent decline year-on-year.

The drop in revenue directly correlates with a downturn in international arrivals to the UNESCO-listed world heritage site. A total of 387,772 foreign tourists purchased passes to the iconic temple complex in the first half of the year, which represents a 31.69 percent decrease from the figures recorded during the corresponding months in 2025. This shift aligns with broader regional travel patterns, as global macroeconomic headwinds, fluctuating flight availability, and rising logistical costs continue to influence international leisure travel throughout Southeast Asia.

Beyond the primary boundaries of the Angkor park, Angkor Enterprise managed and collected revenues from four other key cultural, historical, and transport hubs across the region to supplement preservation and management efforts. During this six-month window, the Koh Ker temple archaeological zone generated $116,325 while the ancient Beng Mealea temple drew $83,430 in ticket sales. Additionally, the eco-tourism and historic site at Phnom Kbal Spean recorded $3,585, and boat services at the Chong Kneas port area contributed $426,665 to the first-half financial pool.

Despite the challenging commercial environment and lower overall visitor volumes, the state enterprise sustained its critical social responsibility commitments to the nation’s public healthcare system. During the six-month period, Angkor Enterprise successfully directed $775,544 to the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation. Funded through a dedicated institutional portion of every international ticket sold, these ongoing contributions remain an indispensable lifeline for ensuring free, high-quality pediatric medical treatment for millions of children across the Kingdom.

As tourism authorities navigate these evolving global dynamics, strategic efforts remain focused on expanding direct international flight corridors and refining destination marketing campaigns to revitalize arrival momentum ahead of the upcoming high season. (read more)
