Cambodia and Vietnam Partner to Build Major Drug Rehabilitation Center in Svay Rieng

Cambodia and Vietnam are joining forces to establish an expansive National Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Svay Rieng Province. The planned facility will cover more than fifty-three hectares of land, marking a significant step forward in bilateral efforts to address substance dependency and long-term recovery.

The project advanced further following a strategic meeting on May 27, 2026, where local administrators and Vietnamese law enforcement officials met to review plans and conduct direct on-site research at the proposed construction zone. The working session was attended by Men Eng, the Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng Province, and a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, which was led by Nguyen Van Cuong, the Deputy Director of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department.

According to Men Eng, the development of this national center is explicitly designed to reinforce international cooperation in combating and resolving ongoing narcotics challenges. By creating a centralized environment for treatment and rehabilitation, both nations aim to combine resources to offer better reintegration pathways while maintaining a united front against cross-border drug-related issues.

The Cambodian-Vietnamese discussions emphasized several key tasks, including the review of the master plan and geographical map for the construction site, the preparation of technical and equipment support mechanisms, and the assurance of security, order, and legal coordination throughout the project’s implementation.

The National Center for Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation is planned to be established on the project site located in Krasaing Village, Krasaing Commune, Romeas Hek District, Svay Rieng Province. The project will cover a substantial area of up to 53 hectares. It represents a significant achievement in the cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam, aimed at reducing and ultimately eliminating the dangers of drugs in the community. Furthermore, it seeks to rescue and rehabilitate drug addicts, providing them with the opportunity to reintegrate and contribute to the development of society.
