Cambodia Welcomes 22 Thousand Indian Tourists in First Quarter of 2026 Alongside New Cross-Border Digital Payment Launch

Cambodia welcomed approximately 22,000 Indian tourists during the first quarter of 2026, spanning from January to March, with expectations that this figure will continue an upward trajectory. This development was highlighted during the official launch ceremony of the cross-border Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and QR code payment system between Cambodia and India on June 2, 2026. The event was attended by HE Huot Hak, the Minister of Tourism, and HE Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, the Indian Ambassador to Cambodia.

Tourism authorities project a steady rise in Indian visitor arrivals through enhanced bilateral connectivity, simplified travel protocols, and the implementation of fresh initiatives designed to enrich the traveler experience. Among these key initiatives is the upcoming International Yoga event, which Cambodia will host to further engage international visitors. The newly introduced cross-border payment platform will allow seamless financial transactions, directly supporting local tourism businesses while driving the expansion of a connected and inclusive regional digital economy. Beyond economic benefits, officials noted that the integration tightens the bonds of friendship between the citizens of both nations.

According to a broader report released by the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia recorded a total of nearly 13 million tourists during the first four months of 2026. Domestic tourism experienced a substantial surge, attracting more than 11 million local travelers, which marks a 63 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Conversely, foreign arrivals experienced a contraction, with the country welcoming just over 1.6 million international tourists, representing a 12.4 percent decline compared to the previous year.
