China Reaffirms Strategic Support for Cambodia’s Economic Development and Key Mega-Projects

China has reaffirmed its full commitment to encouraging Chinese state-owned and private enterprises to expand direct investments in Cambodia, aiming to drive the Kingdom’s next phase of socio-economic growth. The renewed investment pledge was solidified during a high-level bilateral meeting on September 7, 2026, between H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, alongside senior leaders of China and Fujian Province.

During the discussion, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol expressed Cambodia’s deep appreciation for Beijing’s historic and ongoing support for national socio-economic progress, particularly through large-scale strategic infrastructure financing. As part of the bilateral updates, Sun Chanthol briefed the Chinese leadership on the status and operational progress of the landmark Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project, emphasizing its strategic role in establishing a new economic corridor and transforming national logistics.

In response, Vice President Han Zheng reaffirmed China’s firm willingness to fully back Cambodia’s long-term socio-economic priorities and execute key strategic developments in line with the consensus established by top leaders from both nations. Specifically, authorities from Fujian Province pledged to actively mobilize companies, commercial institutions, and private investors from the province to establish operations in Cambodia, thereby deepening the comprehensive Cambodia-China Community with a Shared Future.

Both delegations expressed confidence that the strategic outcomes of the high-level meeting will act as a major catalyst for bilateral trade expansion, direct investment generation, and improved living standards for citizens across both countries. The agreement underscores the enduring strength of the bilateral alliance and sets a concrete pathway for accelerated capital deployment into Cambodian manufacturing, logistics, and infrastructure sectors.
