Gov’t Opens Bidding for Sand Mining on Over 2000 Hectares in Two Provinces

The Ministry of Mines and Energy has publicly allowed private firms to bid for sand mining leases on over 2,000 hectares in Koh Kong and Sihanoukville.

According to a letter issued on 30 December 2020, there are three locations in Koh Kong province. These include a 109-hectare area in Ta Noun commune of Botum Sakor district, an 882-hectare area in Andong Teok and Kandal commune of Botum Sakor district, and a 464-hectare area in Dang Peaeng, Chi Kha Kraom, and Chrouy Svay commune of Srae Ambel district.

Meanwhile, there are four spots in Sihanoukville, including a 318-hectare area in Kaev Phos commune of Stueng Hav district, 81 hectares in Tumnob Rolok of Stueng Hav, 60 hectares in Ou Chrov commune of Prey Nob district, and 228 hectares in Ream and Ou Chrov commune of Prey Nob district.

According to the same letter, companies wishing to operate the businesses must submit their competitive bid at the Department of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction sand mining business department, along with a copy of their company certificate.

Recently, the Ministry of Mines and Energy also issued licenses for two private firms to continue their gold mining activities on over 20,000 hectares in Tbong Khmum and Ratanakkiri provinces. (Read more)
