Phnom Penh: Amid intensifying regional competition across Southeast Asia to build smart cities and modern spatial infrastructure, Cambodia has made a decisive move to integrate space technology into its land management framework. On July 28, 2026, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Guangxi Land and Resources Planning and Design Group Co., Ltd. to collaborate on utilizing advanced satellite technology across the land management and urban planning sectors.

This strategic partnership leverages satellite systems to significantly enhance operational efficiency across several critical domains. In mapping and cadastral operations, the technology will improve both accuracy and speed in national land registration processes. Furthermore, it will support systematic land management and urban development by fostering orderly expansion and sustainable land-use strategies. Strengthening Cambodia’s Geographic Information System capability is another core pillar, ensuring comprehensive spatial data collection while driving research and innovation that directly benefits the daily lives of Cambodian citizens.

Cambodia’s satellite initiative aligns with a broader trend across ASEAN, where neighboring economies such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia are rapidly digitizing land records and deploying satellite imagery to boost investor confidence and minimize land disputes. By joining forces with a specialized entity like Guangxi Land, Cambodia is accelerating its technological catching-up process, establishing a transparent, accurate, and internationally compliant land administration system.
