Phnom Penh Autonomous Port Shatters Records with Twenty-Five Percent Surge in Container Traffic

Strategic river hub surpasses six hundred thousand container milestone in 2025 as Cambodia’s export economy accelerates through modern logistics and expanded trade routes

The Phnom Penh Autonomous Port has closed the 2025 fiscal year with a historic performance, signaling a major leap in Cambodia’s capacity for regional and international trade. According to the latest official business report released on January 15, 2026, the port handled a total of 600,023 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) between January and December 2025. This achievement represents a remarkable growth of nearly 25 percent compared to the 480,200 TEUs recorded in 2024, underscoring the port’s vital role as a primary gateway for the nation’s rising industrial output.

The surge in container throughput is a direct reflection of Cambodia’s robust export performance, particularly in non-garment sectors such as agricultural products and solar panels. Beyond cargo volume, the port’s passenger and cruise services also saw a substantial recovery, with 662 vessel calls carrying over 31,000 international tourists in 2025, an increase of 26 percent year on year. This diversified growth helped push the port’s total revenue to more than 38 million dollars for the year, allowing the state-owned enterprise to maintain its position as one of the most profitable public entities in the country.

Strategic infrastructure improvements and the streamlining of customs procedures have been key drivers of this operational success. The port has benefited from the expansion of its LM17 terminal and enhanced connectivity with the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and the newly launched Funan Techo Canal project, which is expected to further reduce transit times and logistics costs. Furthermore, the introduction of electronic data interchange systems has improved the efficiency of ship berthing and cargo clearance, making the Phnom Penh river hub a more competitive option for regional manufacturers.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port aims to continue its modernization efforts to support the government’s vision of making Cambodia a high-middle-income country by 2030. With continued investments in automated cargo handling and green port technologies, the facility is well-positioned to handle the increasing demands of the ASEAN economic community. As international trade routes stabilize and domestic production grows, the record-breaking numbers of 2025 serve as a clear indicator that the heartbeat of Cambodia’s logistics sector is stronger than ever.
