The Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation (SSCA) has called for enhanced cooperation among relevant authorities before granting building permits in the vicinity of the Techo International Airport, underscoring the importance of adherence to aviation safety standards.

HE Dr Mao Havannall, Minister in Charge of the Secretariat of Civil Aviation, emphasised the necessity for close coordination among ministries, institutions, and local administrations during a recent inspection of the airport’s construction progress on 12 March 2024. He highlighted the imperative of aligning building permits with regulations governing aviation obstacle management to mitigate potential hazards and ensure the smooth operation of the airport.

“To prevent the creation of obstructions and to safeguard the safety, security, and seamless functionality of aviation activities within the Techo International Airport vicinity, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation stresses the imperative for pertinent ministries, institutions, and administrations to adhere to regulations governing the management of height obstacles near international airports before granting licenses or permits for any construction endeavours,” stated HE Dr Mao Havannall.

With the construction of the 4F-class Techo International Airport advancing steadily, having reached 66 percent completion as of 21 February 2024, significant investments totalling US$961 million have been allocated towards this transformative project, which boasts a total budget of US$1.5 billion.
