In a strategic push to modernize Cambodia’s agricultural distribution networks, French wholesale market operator SEMMARIS is advancing a comprehensive feasibility study to establish an international-grade agricultural produce and fresh food wholesale market in Phnom Penh. The initiative was highlighted during an official working discussion on August 12, 2026, between H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and a high-level SEMMARIS delegation led by Development Director Thierry Febvay.

The proposed wholesale complex stems from a strategic cooperation agreement signed on July 10, 2026, between SEMMARIS—operator of the world-renowned Marché International de Rungis in Paris—and Cambodian conglomerate WorldBridge Group. During the meeting, SEMMARIS representatives outlined the feasibility study’s scope, which evaluates the technical, commercial, and operational parameters necessary to construct a modern agro-logistics hub in the capital. The delegation requested technical collaboration and administrative support across relevant government ministries to establish a solid foundation for an effective operational strategy. (read more)

In response, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol welcomed the delegation and affirmed the CDC’s readiness to provide full facilitation and institutional support throughout the study to bring the vision to fruition. He emphasized that the Royal Government of Cambodia prioritizes agricultural modernization, supply chain efficiency, and domestic agro-processing to maximize value creation for Cambodian farmers.

The planned international wholesale hub is recognized as a high-potential strategic project for the Kingdom. Beyond modernizing national agro-logistics and fortifying fresh food supply chains, the development will serve as a vital catalyst for local agriculture by adding value to farm yield, securing stable local markets and farm incomes, enhancing national food security, and positioning Cambodian agricultural exports for broader regional and global markets.
