Government Officially Establishes Kampong Chhnang Multipurpose Port and Logistics Center

New strategic hub in Kampong Leaeng district designed to modernize inland waterway transport and enhance international trade connectivity

In a decisive move to bolster Cambodia’s logistics infrastructure, the Royal Government has officially announced the establishment of the Kampong Chhnang Multipurpose Port and Logistics Center. The initiative was formalized through a sub-decree signed by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet on March 16, 2026. This new facility is strategically designed to accommodate international maritime navigation, facilitating the entry and exit of vessels while providing comprehensive services for the transfer, loading, and unloading of diverse cargo, including containers and bulk goods.

The center is located in Chambak Khpos Village, Svay Rumpear Commune, within the Kampong Leaeng District of Kampong Chhnang Province. According to the government directive, the development will occupy a significant footprint along the Tonle Sap River, creating a vital link between inland production areas and global markets. The project is a key component of the nation’s broader effort to transition toward a more integrated and cost-effective transport network, shifting reliance away from traditional road transport toward environmentally friendly water-based corridors.

A notable aspect of this development is its dual ownership structure. The facility is divided into two distinct sections: one part is designated as state public property, while the other is the private property of KLP.T Transportation Co., Ltd. This public-private synergy is expected to drive efficiency and ensure that the port meets international standards for logistics operations.

By increasing the capacity of the inland waterway transport system, the government aims to reduce heavy transport on national roads, thereby minimizing infrastructure wear and lowering overall logistics costs for businesses. This project aligns with the Comprehensive Intermodal Transport and Logistics System Master Plan (2023–2033), reinforcing Cambodia’s position as a competitive regional hub for trade and supply chain management.
